Project 2A: Double Exposure

Inspiration
The inspiration was from the picture above, which was from the practice in class. More details in https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Fa9RAGZg5q54uhqYQ8PkfclDJ8gn96c5WVSTI2ZlBfU/edit#slide=id.g12606e69c3f_1_240

Final Outcome

Project 2B: Poster Design

Portfolio

The background I used was a picture of the sky and under the sea POV, although the sea water is not that obvious because the opacity was decreased. My silhouette and a dolphin were masked out and put across each other to show that we were looking at each other. Then, the phrase "We Are Alive// SDG 14: Life Below Water" was added.

A picture of an island and a view of the bottom of the sea surface was combined. Then, some animals and rubbish were added to show that the sea animals are swimming in a dirty environment. The phrase used here is "Under the sea // not as clean as you see," which emphasizes the message of rampant sea pollution.

I chose the first one as the final poster because the idea is more original. However, the lecturer suggested improvising the poster as everything looked odd, and the message was unclear.

First, I changed the sea background to a clearer picture that clearly shows seawater. Then, I attached a different picture of me and the dolphins. Both are made into shadows using Blend Modes (Screen) after changing the original color to Black and White. Lastly, the catchphrase "We breathe the same air" was added to strongly emphasize the message of this poster.

Final Outcome

Feedback

The lecturer mentioned that the first digital poster draft's message was unclear, and everything seemed unmatched and weird. The second draft was OK, but the rubbish was not enough. Overall, the first draft will have more potential if it is improvised.

Reflection

Utilizing Photoshop with limited knowledge about the software to create a poster is quite a challenge. Also, stumbling upon beautiful posters when searching for mood boards for inspiration motivated me to create a nice poster, but my skill constrained me from doing so. However, I am still happy with the final outcome, although it looks simple. I am thankful for the useful advice from the lecturer.
